We begin with a thorough examination, which may include X-rays or 3D imaging to see the roots clearly. Local anaesthetic is used so you’re completely comfortable.
Using advanced instruments and microscopes, we gently clean the canals inside your tooth, removing bacteria and infection. The canals are then carefully disinfected to prevent further problems.
Once the canals are clean, they are sealed with a special filling material to keep bacteria out. Your dentist will then restore the tooth with a crown or filling to protect it and return it to full function.

Most patients see an endodontist on their dentist’s advice. Common reasons are a complex root canal, a root canal that has failed or become reinfected, a cracked tooth, a knocked-out or injured tooth, pain or swelling that is hard to pin down, or a tooth that may need surgery to save it.
For a straightforward root canal, many general dentists do a good job. An endodontist is usually the better choice when the canals are curved, narrow or hard to find, a previous root canal has failed, the tooth is cracked or injured, or surgery may be needed. Endodontists complete further university training in this one area and work with a dental microscope and 3D imaging.

There is no single price. Fees depend on the tooth, how many canals it has, whether it is a first treatment or a retreatment, and whether 3D imaging or sedation is needed, so molars usually cost more than front teeth. You receive a cost estimate before any treatment starts. Private health extras cover may pay a rebate; Medicare does not usually cover dental treatment for adults.
