When your dentist sends you to a specialist
Plenty of Lower North Shore dentists do simple root canals well. A root canal specialist has three extra years of training, for the harder cases:
- A broken tooth that hurts when you bite
- Toothache that wakes you at night
- An old root canal aching again
- Calcified canals in an older molar
- Swelling or a gum pimple near a tooth
Why Choose Us
Four reasons Lower North Shore patients and their dentists choose Specialist Endo.

Magnification and 3D scans reveal calcified canals, cracks and missed anatomy behind failed root canals.

Root canal treatment on the Lower North Shore
We provide root canal treatment across the Lower North Shore, and nothing outside the pulp and roots. Your dentist keeps your check-ups and crowns.
- Retreatment of a failed root canal, including missed canals
- Cracked tooth treatment, diagnosed under the microscope
- Apicoectomy when infection persists at the root tip
- Internal bleaching for a darkened root-filled front tooth
- Care after a knocked or broken tooth
How it Works
Every Lower North Shore patient follows the same three steps.

Consultation and diagnosis
We take your history, test the tooth and use a CBCT scan if it will change the plan. You leave knowing whether the tooth can be saved. Bring any recent X-rays.

Specialist treatment
Treatment is under local anaesthetic with the operating microscope, usually in one or two visits. Retreatment and surgery are planned the same way. Ask for IV sedation when booking.

Back to your dentist
Your own dentist then places the final crown or filling. Book it soon, because a root-treated tooth needs protection from biting forces. Routine care continues with them as before.

What the Hume Street clinic has
The clinic on Level 3 at 34 Hume Street is purpose-built for endodontics. Each piece of equipment has a clear job.
- Operating microscopes light and magnify the inside of the tooth.
- 3D CBCT imaging shows roots, cracks and infection a flat X-ray can miss.
- Rotary and ultrasonic systems shape and clean curved canals.
- Day surgery across the hall makes IV sedation possible.
For Lower North Shore referring dentists
Refer through the online referral form. Send recent periapical radiographs, a short history of the tooth, and whether you want assessment, treatment or retreatment. Lower North Shore patient questions
Straight answers on specialists, broken teeth, failed root canals, travel and sedation.
Where is the nearest root canal specialist on the North Shore?
In Crows Nest, at Level 3, 34 Hume Street, just off the Pacific Highway between North Sydney and Chatswood. Crows Nest Metro is a 2-minute walk, and the council car park on Hume Street is free for 2 hours. No referral is needed.
Do I need a specialist, or can my own dentist do the root canal?
It depends on the tooth. Many general dentists handle simple root canals well. See a specialist for curved or calcified canals, a failed earlier root canal, a suspected crack, or pain nobody can pin down. You can book with or without a referral.
What can be done for a broken or cracked tooth?
It depends how deep the break goes. We check it under the microscope and, if needed, a CBCT scan. An exposed or inflamed nerve is removed and the canals sealed, then your dentist places a crown. A crack through the root usually cannot be saved.
My old root canal is hurting again. Can the tooth be saved?
Often, yes. Renewed pain usually means infection has returned through a missed canal or a broken seal. Retreatment under the microscope can find and clean that canal. If the crown blocks access, an apicoectomy at the root tip may work instead. A CBCT scan shows which applies.
Can I get to Crows Nest by Metro from North Sydney or Chatswood?
Yes. Crows Nest has its own station on the Sydney Metro M1 line. It is one stop north of Victoria Cross in North Sydney and one stop south of Chatswood. The clinic at 34 Hume Street is about a 2-minute walk from the station.
Do you offer sedation if I am frightened of the dentist?
Yes. Day surgery facilities across the hall let us offer IV sedation for anxious or phobic patients. Arrange it in advance by mentioning it when you book. Most patients manage well with local anaesthetic alone, and find it no more uncomfortable than a filling.
