Why North Sydney dentists refer to a specialist
General dentists in North Sydney do plenty of root canals themselves. They refer on when a tooth needs more, often to our specialist endodontists on the Lower North Shore. Common triggers:
- Lingering pain after hot or cold drinks
- A toothache that wakes you at night
- Pain when biting down
- Swelling in the gum beside a tooth
- A root canal that never quite settled
Why Choose Us
Four practical reasons North Sydney patients choose our Crows Nest clinic.
One Metro stop
Victoria Cross to Crows Nest takes about 2 minutes, then a short walk to Hume Street.
Two registered specialists
Dr Omar Ikram and Dr Jasmine Holgate are registered specialist endodontists, not general dentists.
Microscope and CBCT
Dental operating microscopes and 3D CBCT imaging help find hidden canals and cracks.
IV sedation available
Day surgery facilities across the hall allow IV sedation for anxious patients.

Root canal treatment close to North Sydney
We provide root canal treatment to North Sydney patients with a first infection, and specialist care when a tooth is harder to save.
- Root canal retreatment when an earlier root canal has failed
- Cracked tooth treatment for sharp pain on chewing
- Apicoectomy when infection persists at the root tip
- Care for a tooth knocked in a fall or sport
How specialist equipment changes the outcome
A root canal succeeds when every canal is found, cleaned and sealed. Some canals cannot be seen without magnification, so our specialists work under dental operating microscopes.
When a standard X-ray does not explain the symptoms, we take a 3D CBCT scan on site. It shows the shape of the canals, any crack and infection around the root. Day surgery facilities across the hall allow IV sedation.
How it Works
Treatment follows three stages, and your own dentist completes the last one.

Consultation and diagnosis
We examine the tooth, take any imaging needed and explain the findings in plain terms. Book directly or bring a referral. Completing the medical history form online beforehand saves time.

Specialist treatment
Your root canal or retreatment is done under local anaesthetic and the microscope. Most patients find it no more uncomfortable than a filling. One or two visits are usual.

Restoration with your dentist
Once the tooth has settled, we send a written report to your general dentist. They place the crown or filling that protects the root-filled tooth long term.

Questions from North Sydney patients
Straight answers for people who live or work around North Sydney.
Where is the nearest root canal specialist to North Sydney?
Specialist Endo is at Level 3, 34 Hume Street, Crows Nest, one Metro stop from Victoria Cross. The ride takes about 2 minutes, then it is a 2-minute walk. By car it is 3 to 5 minutes via McLaren Street and the Pacific Highway.
Can I fit a root canal appointment into a North Sydney workday?
Usually, yes. Appointments are on weekdays, and the clinic is one Metro stop from Victoria Cross. Treatment uses local anaesthetic, so you stay awake and can usually head back to work afterwards. Tell us your timing needs when you book.
My old root canal has flared up. Can it be redone?
Often, yes. Retreatment removes the old root filling, finds any canal that was missed, then cleans and reseals the tooth. We use the microscope and, where needed, a CBCT scan to see why it failed. If retreatment is not the best option, we explain root tip surgery.
My dentist is in the city. Can they still refer me?
Yes. Where your dentist practises makes no difference. Any dentist can refer through our online form, and you can also book without a referral. After treatment we report to whichever dentist you nominate so they can place the final restoration.
Will I know the cost before treatment starts?
Yes. Fees are explained after the consultation and before any treatment begins, so you can decide with full information. The cost depends on the tooth and how complex its canals are. An accurate figure needs an examination first.
