Wollstonecraft station is on the T1 North Shore line, and St Leonards is the next stop north. From there, walk about ten minutes along the Pacific Highway into Hume Street. Waverton commuters use the same line, boarding one stop further south.
- Walking takes 15 to 20 minutes.
- Drive via Belmont Avenue and Shirley Road, 3 to 5 minutes outside peak.
- Both suburbs share postcode 2065 and sit in North Sydney Council.
- Two free hours at the Hume Street council car park.
Why Wollstonecraft patients see an endodontist
Some referrals start with a dark area on a routine X-ray and no symptoms at all. Others begin with an obvious problem that needs a root canal specialist:
- Pain that lingers after cold
- An ache that builds through the evening
- A tooth too tender to chew on
- An earlier root canal that never settled
- Curved or calcified canals
Retreatment is a big part of our work as a Lower North Shore endodontist.

Root canal treatment for Wollstonecraft patients
Many Wollstonecraft referrals involve teeth that already had root canal treatment elsewhere. Services we provide include:
- Root canal retreatment and advanced canal location
- Specialist root canal therapy for first-time cases
- Cracked tooth treatment when a fracture is suspected
- Apicoectomy for persistent root-tip infection
Your general dentist places the final crown once the root filling is complete.
The technology behind a specialist root canal
Locating a missed canal or removing an old post is very difficult without a dental operating microscope. That is why retreatment cases rely on one.
A 3D CBCT scan shows each root and any bone loss around it, where a normal X-ray flattens the tooth. The endodontist then chooses between retreatment through the crown or surgery at the root end. Where anxiety stands in the way, the day surgery across the hall offers IV sedation.
How it Works
The steps are the same for a first root canal or a retreatment.

Consultation and imaging
Bring your referral and any X-rays. Expect an examination, fresh radiographs and usually a CBCT scan. You hear the findings and options before anything is booked.

Treatment under microscope
Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth, which is then isolated. Old root fillings or posts are removed, and canals are located, cleaned and sealed. Most retreatments take one or two visits, occasionally more.

Restoration with your dentist
Your general dentist then places the crown or final filling, guided by our report and images. A review X-ray some months later can confirm the bone around the root has healed.
Meet the endodontists treating Wollstonecraft patients
Dr Jasmine Holgate, a specialist endodontist, holds BDent, DClinDent and FICD.
Dr Omar Ikram is also a specialist endodontist, with BDS (Otago), FRACDS, MClinDent (London), MRD (Edinburgh), FICD and FPFA. Dr Ikram is one of the co-inventors of the EndoPrep app.
Both hold specialist registration in endodontics, which requires postgraduate training beyond general dentistry. They work from the purpose-built Hume Street clinic, with operating microscopes, CBCT imaging and IV sedation across the hall.

Common questions from Wollstonecraft
What locals ask about the trip, failed root canals, silent infection and follow-up care.
Is the train or the walk quicker from Wollstonecraft?
They are similar. By train it is a single stop to St Leonards. From there, walk about ten minutes down the Pacific Highway to Hume Street. Walking directly takes 15 to 20 minutes. Driving takes 3 to 5 minutes, with free two-hour council parking on Hume Street.
My root canal failed. Is retreatment worth it?
Often, yes. The microscope and a CBCT scan help find the cause, such as a missed canal or a leak. If the tooth is restorable, retreatment or root end surgery may save it and avoid an implant.
What can an endodontist do that my usual dentist can't?
An endodontist has completed three extra years of specialist training in root canal work. That matters for calcified or curved canals, broken instruments, failed root fillings and surgery at the root tip. Your usual dentist still handles check-ups and the final crown.
Do I go back to my Wollstonecraft dentist afterwards?
Yes. Once treatment is complete, your general dentist receives a report and images, then places the crown or filling. Book that final restoration promptly. A temporary filling is not meant to protect a root-filled tooth for long.
Why would a tooth with no pain need a specialist?
Because infection can be silent. A dark area at the root tip on a routine X-ray may mean the pulp has died. The endodontist confirms this with testing and a CBCT scan, then advises whether treatment or monitoring is best.
