Does a specialist root canal hurt?
It should not. The tooth and gum are fully numbed with local anaesthetic before we begin, and we check it is working. Some tenderness on biting is normal for a few days afterwards. Over-the-counter pain relief usually manages it.
Can a cracked molar be saved, or will I lose it?
It depends on how far the crack runs. A crack limited to the crown or upper root can often be treated. That means a root canal and a full-coverage crown. A crack running down the root usually means extraction. We check under the microscope and with CBCT first.
