Why Huntleys Point patients should not wait
Distance tempts people to put off seeing a root canal specialist. Yet pulp inflammation rarely reverses once pain lingers, and infection can spread into the bone.
- Pain to hot that takes minutes to fade
- An ache that worsens lying down
- A dull ache painkillers barely touch
- Tenderness when you tap the tooth
Treating early is quicker and more predictable. It is the advice we give across our Lower North Shore endodontic practice.

Equipment behind a Huntleys Point root canal
Dental operating microscopes let Dr Ikram and Dr Holgate see a hidden canal, a hairline crack or old filling material. A 3D CBCT scan, taken in the clinic, shows root number, curvature and infection before treatment starts.
Rotary instruments shape the canals and ultrasonic systems disinfect the spaces between them. Day surgery facilities sit across the hall.
How it Works
What to expect, step by step, as a Huntleys Point patient.

Consult and plan
You attend the Crows Nest clinic for an examination. Tests and a CBCT scan, where useful, give a diagnosis. We explain your options, likely visits and fees in writing.

Treat the tooth
Under local anaesthetic, the canals are cleaned, shaped, disinfected and sealed using the microscope. One or two visits is usual. Sedation, if chosen, happens across the hall.

Restore with your dentist
Your dentist receives our report and images. They then fit the crown or filling that stops the tooth from cracking. Placing it soon after treatment matters.

Common questions from Huntleys Point
Quick answers on injuries, pain, commuting and retreating older root canals.
Is there such a thing as a painless root canal?
For most people, yes. Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth fully, and many patients say it feels like a long filling. A very inflamed tooth can need extra anaesthetic, which we allow for. IV sedation is available across the hall for strong anxiety.
How soon after a knock to the mouth should I see an endodontist?
Within a day or two if a tooth is loose, displaced or very painful. If a tooth is knocked out entirely, seek care immediately. A tooth that is merely tender can be assessed within a week. Early review lets us act before infection sets in.
Is some soreness after a root canal normal?
Yes. Mild tenderness when biting for a few days is common and usually settles with over-the-counter pain relief. Severe or worsening pain, swelling or a bad taste is not expected. If that happens, call (02) 9129 0009.
Can I fit an appointment around my commute into the city?
Often, yes. Crows Nest Metro station is two minutes from the clinic, so city workers can come north during the day. Weekday appointments are available. Ask reception for a time that suits your trip back to Huntleys Point.
My root canal was done overseas with no records. Can you retreat it?
Yes. A CBCT scan and examination show what was done and how well the canals were filled. They also reveal anything missed. Records help but are not essential. We explain the findings before starting any retreatment.
