Why a Linley Point dentist refers to us
General dentists do many root canals well. They send a root canal specialist the teeth that are harder than average.
- A hidden second canal in a premolar
- Sharply curved or calcified molar roots
- An old root filling aching again
- A patient needing IV sedation
Referral is not a judgement on your dentist. It is how endodontic care across the Lower North Shore usually works.

Root canal treatment near Linley Point
Many Linley Point visits begin with root canal treatment for an inflamed pulp. Others need one of the options below, all done in Crows Nest.
- Root canal therapy, usually over one or two visits
- Advanced canal location and shaping for failed root canals
- Root end surgery when treatment from inside fails
- Internal bleaching for a root-filled tooth gone dark
The specialist difference, explained plainly
Two things set specialist treatment apart. First is what we can see. A dental operating microscope lights and magnifies the tooth, so a hair-width canal opening becomes obvious. Second is what we can plan. A CBCT scan shows how many roots there are and how they curve. Rotary and ultrasonic systems then shape and flush the canals. Sedation runs in the day surgery across the hall.
How it Works
Three stages, from your first phone call to the finished tooth.

Consultation and scan
At the first visit we examine the tooth and review your dentist's X-rays. A CBCT scan is taken if needed. You leave with a clear diagnosis and written fees.

Root canal work
Treatment happens under the microscope with local anaesthetic, usually across one or two visits. If you chose IV sedation, it takes place in the day surgery across the hall.

Crown with your dentist
A root-filled tooth needs a crown or strong filling to stop it cracking. Your own dentist provides that. We send them a report so the handover is smooth.
The specialists Linley Point patients see
Two registered specialist endodontists treat patients at Specialist Endo Sydney. Dr Omar Ikram‘s credentials run from BDS (Otago) to FRACDS, MClinDent (London), MRD (Edinburgh), FICD and FPFA. Dr Ikram co-invented the EndoPrep app as well. Dr Jasmine Holgate is qualified with BDent, DClinDent and FICD.
The Crows Nest clinic was designed around endodontics, with microscopes, 3D CBCT, rotary instrumentation and ultrasonic cleaning. The practice also runs the Apex Conference Centre, its education venue for dentists.
Referring from Linley Point
Referring from the Lane Cove Council area is simple. Complete the referral form and attach current radiographs. Add a short note on symptoms, previous treatment and your planned restoration. We treat the tooth in Crows Nest and send you a report. The patient then returns to your practice for the crown or core.
Linley Point patients often ask
Answers on buses, retreatment, specialist care and who places your crown.
Where can I see a root canal specialist near Linley Point?
At Specialist Endo Sydney, Level 3, 34 Hume Street, Crows Nest. It is 9 to 14 minutes' drive via Burns Bay Road, Centennial Avenue and Epping Road. You can book without a referral, and the council car park nearby gives two free hours.
Is there a bus from Linley Point to the Crows Nest clinic?
Not a direct one. Buses along Burns Bay Road take you towards Lane Cove village. From there, change to a Pacific Highway service through St Leonards. Highway buses stop near Hume Street. Driving is usually quicker.
My root canal was done years ago and aches again. Can it be saved?
Often, yes. Old root canals usually fail because a canal was missed, the seal leaked or a crack developed. We remove the old filling under the microscope, clean every canal and refill the tooth. A CBCT scan first shows whether retreatment is realistic.
How is an endodontist different from my regular dentist?
An endodontist is a dentist with a further three-year specialist degree in treating the inside of the tooth. We do only this work, with microscopes and 3D scans. Your regular dentist handles check-ups, cleans and crowns, and often refers the harder cases to us.
Who does the crown after my root canal, you or my dentist?
Your own dentist. Our job ends when the canals are cleaned, filled and sealed with a temporary or core restoration. We write to your Linley Point dentist with a recommendation. You then book with them for the crown.
